Life is hard. You ever feel that way??? You ever just frustratingly ask yourself, “How in the world did I get here?” How did I get to a place that’s so different from where I want to be? How did I fall so far behind where I feel I should be right now? How did I get HERE?
The powerful thing about life is that’s it’s all about building, but not just building anything. It’s about building the right things the right way. Sometimes we take a pause from building and we simply don’t build. Other times we do build, but we’re building the wrong thing. Other times we build, but we’re building the wrong way, or in the wrong place. Life is not about constantly being active, busy, and occupied. Life is about finding out what it is God wants to build, and joining Him in the building of that thing. This includes, for instance, building your relationship with God, so you can get perspective on what it is you need to build. After all, we’re His creation, and we must discover our purpose through Him.
I like how the psalmist put it (Psalm 127:1), “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.”In other words, unless you discover what it is God is building (what He’s building is also what He wants to build), you will labor in vain.
Have you ever heard the phrases, “addition through subtraction” or “sometimes less is more”? How about the concept of pruning plants in order to help them grow, and be more lovely? Eliminating proper things from our lives produces growth. After all, there’s a time to tear down, and a time to build (Ecclesiastes 3:3). When you’re tearing down the proper things, you’re actually building.
If there’s one word I have for us, it’s this, whatever we do, we must never lose our hunger to build, because a creative God has given us the ability, opportunity, and example to always be building the right things the right way.
Lastly, on the 7th day, God constructed rest. The prophet Isaiah’s words (Isaiah 41:30) let us know, “They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not grow weary. They shall walk, and not faint.” In other words, when we build rest in God, and wait on the Lord, our endurance for the journey of life is built up.
Find what it is that you’re to be building right now, and build it.
Live the life.
